What is Age Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD)?
As per recent study ARMD is the third most common cause of blindness disease. Persons who are more than 50 years of age usually suffer from this age related macular disease. Macular degeneration is a condition, which is often caused because of age related factors. That’s why it’s frequently referred to as age-related macular degeneration. Age related macular degeneration mostly leads to legal blindness.
Age related macular disease is of two types:
Dry AMD: this refers to a retinal disease in which macular tissues becomes thin and due to which slowly lose their functions. One of the most usual symptoms of Dry AMD is hazy vision in which a person finds difficult to recognize the faces.
Wet AMD: This retinal disease is caused by explosion of blood vessel inside the retina that results in bleeding or leakage of fluid that forms a scar under retina. Wet AMD disease should not be ignored if detected as it will get worse time by time.
 
 
What are the symptoms of ARMD?
The symptoms of ARMD are as follows:
Straight line tends to appear wavy
Unclear vision as for example problems in recognizing faces, objects and it also effects one’s ability to drive, read etc.
Most of times a person will observe a dark area in central vision.
 
How AMD disease can be detected?
AMD disease can be detected by following tests like 
Amsler grid test
 Visual acuity
 Dilated eye test.
 
What is the treatment of ARMD?
 
Several types of therapy have been introduced to cure ARMD. The most common type of therapy to cure ARMD is the Photodynamic therapy with visudyne and Transpupillary thermotherapy. Other than that the various other therapy are as follows:
Laser photocoagulation
Intravitreal injections
Triamcinolone therapy
Transpupillary thermotherapy
